Installation

  1. Download the PSD plugin from: https://www.psdplugin.com/
  2. Open Windows Explorer by pressing WindowsKey + E.
  3. Go to where you saved the downloaded file.  By default, most web browsers will save it to your Downloads folder.
  4. Right-click on the PSDPlugin-#.#.# file and select Extract All...

  5. Click on Extract in the "Extract Compressed (Zipped) Folders" dialog.Extract Compressed (Zipped) Folders dialog box

     

  6. A new window will pop up with the contents of the ZIP file.  Right-click on PhotoShop.dll and select Copy.Windows Explorer context menu item: Copy

     

  7. Now, navigate to the C:\Program Files\paint.net\FileTypes folder.
  8. Right-click the empty area on the right side of the window, and select Paste.Windows Explorer context menu item: Paste

     

  9. Click on Continue in the "Destination Folder Access Denied" dialog.Destination Folder Access Denied dialog box

     

  10. PhotoShop.dll should now be in the FileTypes folder.Windows Explorer folder with DLL present

     

  11. Now, open Paint.NET and select File - Open.  At the bottom right, click on All image types (*.pdn ...)Paint.NET File-Open dialog box

     

  12. If the PSD Plugin was successfully installed, there should now be an option for Photoshop (*.psd)File type selector listbox, showing Photoshop (*.psd) as an option
